On Friday, January 16, 2026, Mayfair High School had their annual Winter Sports Assembly featuring Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Soccer, Girls Wrestling, Cheer, Band, Colorguard, Esports, SkillsUSA, and Monsoon Theatre. ASB had a unique theme which is Y2K where students mostly wore jerseys and jeans.
At the beginning of the assembly after all of the sports had been introduced, Girls Wrestling unfortunately couldn’t participate in the event due to a tournament. ASB honored the Girls Wrestling seniors with candy before they left.
Our first sports performance was led by Mayfair’s Varsity Cheer debuting their new uniforms for competition. They performed Milkshake by Kelis followed by a stunt at the end. The sports performance goes on and so forth with people cheering on Girls Soccer as Coach Cesar does a front flip in the middle of the circle along with SkillsUSA engaging everyone to do the Macarena with them, and Esports bringing out an unexpected guest, Perfect Cell from Dragon Ball Z, that they battled against.

After the performances, we start our first game of teachers and students where they shoot a hoop and race to get back to their seats. As the game went on, chairs decreased and participants needed to shoot the hoop as soon as possible. It was very chaotic and even one student got disqualified for going to the hoop too early.

So on and so forth, we had our annual Fight Song performed by our Cheer Team, Colorguard, and our Band. Unexpectedly, we also had a performance by our admin and counselors performing classic songs from the 90s with Y2K fashion on.
Following this, there was another game where one of our staff puts on a silly animal mask to scoop up ping pong balls into a basket. Mr. Nguyen and Mrs. Burner eventually were the only ones and math teachers left for the championship round. Mrs. Burner ends up beating Mr. Nguyen in a silly donkey mask.

Eventually, ASB honors our seniors from each team. They announced each of their names for them to come on up and get Sour Patch Kids candy.
After that, our Unified Cheer eventually performs their annual dance routine featuring “Dance the Night Away" by Dua Lipa. Following that, our Monsoon Theatre performs one of their numbers for Beetlejuice the Musical which was a dramatic and stunning performance.

Lastly, we overspent our time at the assembly, so Dr. Morgan quickly announced our Teacher of the Year for the 2025-2026 school year. Mimi Cannizzaro, a math and study skills teacher, is announced as our Teacher of the Year. She received flowers and a big banner along with her family coming to the assembly and supporting her.

Then, ASB and Linkcrew quickly performed their routine and went straight into our alma mater as we went overtime for our assembly.
Overall, I enjoyed this assembly. Each assembly has a theme and I liked the Y2K style where mostly our students and staff wore jerseys and jeans which matched the aesthetic of everyone on campus. We have our Abilities Awareness Assembly and Spring Sports Assembly coming up so stay tuned to the Windjammer!

Such a well-organized and inspiring gathering that truly reflects Mayfair’s commitment to seasonal sports excellence. The atmosphere, planning, and participation felt thoughtfully curated, much like finding reliable sports medicine rehab near me when performance matters. A fitting and exciting launch for Mayfair’s Winter Sports Assembly 2025–2026.
