Senior Top Ten

Eiryl Glenese Aquino is graduating with academic excellence as the valedictorian of the Class of 2026 with a 4.64 GPA. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year university to major in nursing or biological/physiological sciences to pursue a career in healthcare. Throughout her high school career, she was incredibly involved within the Monsoon community. She was an active member of Mayfair Key Club for three years from freshman to junior year. During those three years, she held board positions as vice president, events committee chair, and secretary. In her senior year, she served as secretary for Mayfair’s Care Crafts Club. Eiryl also actively participated in Mariners for four years. She held the position of choreographer/dance captain for three years— from freshman to junior year — and president her senior year. She was also part of the girls’ varsity flag football team during her junior year. Becoming this year’s valedictorian and top student of her class, she describes this experience as awesome and rewarding. Eiryl was surprised that she became valedictorian, but she is grateful and proud of herself for the work she has done. As a Monsoon, she was guided by her choir directors as she expressed her thankfulness towards them. She is grateful for former teacher Mrs. Holcomb who pushed her to become a performer and “make it work!” Additionally, she appreciates Mrs. Campbell for all her efforts diving head first as their choir director for the past two years. Despite her being the new director, Eiryl believes she has done a tremendous job for all choir groups and made her last two years of Mariners valuable and memorable. Furthermore, she thanks her teachers Mr. Nguyen, Mr. Boss, Mr. Headley, Mrs. Garvin, Ms. Chick, and Mrs. Ugale for their help in her educational endeavors. As she leaves Mayfair High School as this year’s valedictorian, she quotes, “Treat everyone with respect and kindness, no matter their background or history!”

Austin Lynch is graduating as the salutatorian of the Class of 2026 with a 4.63 GPA. After high school, he plans on attending Tufts University (where he was accepted through early decision), majoring in biopsychology. As a Monsoon who achieved such a rewarding title, Austin feels glad that his countless number of Advanced Placement courses have paid off in the end. Throughout his academic journey, he is thankful for Princeton prep books, McGraw Hill, and Penguin Random House for their contributions. Austin was active in various clubs including Robotics Club, Environmental Science Club, and Debate Club. He served leadership/board member roles for two years in each of these programs. Austin fulfilled his roles as co-president of Robotics club; treasurer of ESC; and president of Debate Club. There were many teachers who contributed to his growth as a student. Austin is thankful for the work of Mr. Headley, Mr. Nguyen, Ms. Garvin, and Mr. Bacay for their skill in teaching AP classes. As he graduates from Mayfair High School as salutatorian, he leaves a quote from Albert Camus: “One must imagine Sisyphus happy.”

Valedictorian Harvery Nguyen continues his family's legacy of being top of his class and carries the grand title with a 4.72 GPA this school year. While leaving his legacy as top of the 2023 class, he remembers enjoying AP World History his sophomore year, being a part of the Boy’s Varsity Tennis Team and volunteering an exponential amount of time into Environmental Science Club activities. He also thanks many of his AP teachers he had throughout his years, including Mr. Caron and Mrs. Brown. He will continue his excellent academic success by attending UCLA this upcoming fall and we believe that he will do nothing but great things. He leaves his senior year by making a foolish quote: “You miss 0% of the shots you don’t take”!

David Perez is a Monsoon who stands among the top ten students of his class. He is able to graduate from Mayfair High School with a 4.63 GPA. He feels fairly surprised that he was able to keep his grades high throughout high school. As he accomplished this feat, he thinks it is cool to be able to be compared to others with incredible IQs. After high school, he plans on attending a four-year university with the hopes of continuing his passion for film. He aspires to become a documentary filmmaker centered around underrepresented cultures, sports, and issues. David was an active member of the Mayfair community as he was involved in many extracurricular activities. He found himself co-founder of Pickleball Club with Spencer Cummins and co-founder of Film Club with Violet Easter. Additionally, he held officer roles as vice president of Roblox Club and ninth to eleventh grade student representative of the Student Cabinet with former principal Mr. Diaz. During his sophomore year, he joined The Windjammer where he held the position of video editor for three years, assisting with the production of street interviews and podcasts such as The Storm. Outside of school, he coached Little League Baseball with his friend — who he gives a shout out to — Spencer Cummins. David was also a senior athlete who played boys’ baseball for all four years, becoming their varsity player for two years. He is grateful for everyone who played with him as they were crucial to his high school journey. David gives a shout out to Mr. Headley, Mrs. Garvin, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Nguyen, Mr. Eastham, Mrs. Ugale, Ms. Chick, and “the bossman himself”, Mr. Cross. As he leaves Mayfair High School, he leaves future Monsoons with a quote from his dad: “Lazy people do it twice.”

Lizbeth Gutierrez is a senior athlete who feels happy that she is graduating as one of the top ranked students along with her closest friends. She successfully ended her high school career with a 4.62 GPA, placing fifth among peers. She plans to go to UC Los Angeles, majoring in biology/neuroscience in order to become a doctor. At Mayfair, she was involved as board treasurer in Mayfair Academic Program and Key Club for four years. She was involved with Mayfair Athletics, specifically girls soccer. She was a member of the girls soccer team all four years, spending three in varsity girls soccer. Lizbeth is grateful to her soccer coaches Mrs. Arroyo, Coach Cesar, and Coach Grant for creating a memorable last year. She extends her gratitude to Mr. Headley for never creating a boring class experience. As she graduates with this academic achievement, she leaves her underclassmen with a quote: “Although school can be stressful, nothing is guaranteed — so don't worry about future challenges, but instead be present with something that will outlast your high school transcript: your friends.”

​Leidee Khalil Mas feels proud of all the work she has made as she graduates with a 4.6 GPA. Over the years of high school, she was able to see the work was worth it. She tries not to put too much value in it since she has learned that there is more to life than school. Nonetheless, she thinks it is nice that something good came out of it. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year university to major in molecular biology. Leidee was an active participant of Mayfair Key Club for four years. She has made the journey in that club from becoming a member in her freshman year; fundraiser coordinator in her sophomore year; treasurer in her junior year; and vice president in her senior year. Additionally, she was involved in the Mayfair Academic Program where she was also a member for four years. During her senior year, she became MAP’s treasurer. She leaves a legacy of community involvement, making her shine as a Monsoon. As she enters a new chapter of her life, she leaves Mayfair with a quote: “Whatever will be, will be.”

Kendyl Gutierrez is a senior who will graduate with a 4.58 GPA. Being able to graduate in the top of her class, she describes this phenomenon as nice with how her dedication paved the way for this moment. After graduation, she plans to major in chemistry at one of the California State Universities or a UC. Kendyl was involved in the school community as a member of Mayfair Academic Program, Mayfair Key Club, and Environmental Science Club. She also found herself taking the role as treasurer of the newly established Tennis Club. Additionally, Kendyl was a member of Mayfair Art Academy. She was an athlete for the girls varsity soccer team since her freshman year and held the position of captain in their past season. Furthermore, Kendyl was a member of the Monsoon Marching Corps for three years, concluding her time in the program as a flute section leader in her junior year. She has many teachers to thank for her time at Mayfair, contributing to her success and growth as a student. Kendyl expresses her gratitude towards former Art Academy teacher Mr. Nelson for teaching her everything about art and everything in her life that he listened to her rant about. Moreover, she thanks Ms. Arroyo, Mrs. Brown, Ms. Colln, Mr. Headley, Mrs. Garvin, and Mr. Bacay for the impact they left on her high school career. As she graduates from Mayfair High School, Kendyl leaves this quote to future students: “I work hard because I’d rather be tired than broke.”

Ellie Bartschi is a senior athlete who will graduate with a 4.56 GPA. Being able to graduate as one of the top ranked students was a goal of hers, and she says how proud of herself she is as it is something that she worked hard for. It demonstrates her determination to achieve this goal and how far she has come. After graduation, she plans on majoring in civil engineering in Brigham Young University. Throughout her high school career, Ellie was involved in the girls varsity swimming team for four years and fulfilled the role as captain since junior year. Additionally, she was a member of the Mayfair Academic Program (MAP) and California Scholarship Federation (CSF) for four years. Ellie would not have been able to be who she is today without all of her teachers. She expresses her thankfulness towards her many teachers as they have taught her the importance of education and the power it holds. She is grateful for her coach, Coach Matt, who taught her to never give up on herself and to keep her head up and smile even when times are tough. As Ellie enters this new chapter in her life, she leaves her underclassmen with a quote: “Giving up is for rookies…I’m willing to go the distance. How about you?” - Philoctetes (Hercules)

Dalyena Le feels like it is surreal as she has achieved becoming one of the top ranked students of her class. Throughout high school, she never focused on her rank, but states that it feels nice to be recognized for the hard work she has put in. She successfully completed her education, ranking seventh with a 4.47 GPA. Daleyna is truly happy with where she stands. After graduation, she intends to major in nursing with the possibility of attending UC Irvine, San Diego State, or Long Beach City College. During her time at Mayfair, she was involved in the Environmental Science Club for three years. In her senior year, she founded the Tennis Club and has been its president since. Additionally, she reflects on her time at Mayfair’s Art Academy for four years. Daleyna is a senior athlete who was involved in the girls tennis team for four years, spending three on the varsity team. She gives a shout out to her coaches Mr. Tran and Mr. Vo for supporting her and being amazing coaches and mentors. Additionally, she thanks former Art Academy teacher Mr. Nelson for his support throughout the three years she had him as a teacher. Finally, Daleyna expresses her gratitude towards Mr. McCabe and Mr. Rodriguez for being great teachers and assisting her within the classroom. As she enters a new chapter in her life, she shares this quote to future generations: “The future’s too bright to dwell on the past. Life moves too fast. Run faster.”

Lamech Samuel is a senior athlete who will graduate with a 4.47 GPA. He feels accomplished that he is able to stand among the top students of his class. He says it feels great knowing that his effort into school has paid off in this way. After high school, Lamech plans on attending California State University, Long Beach for a biology degree with a flexible job. Once he graduates from there, he will go into medical school to find a career that suits him. Throughout his Mayfair career, he was involved and led Team World Vision for four years. Lamech helped with their Saturday training runs, asked for donations, and recruited other people into the club. He was part of the varsity cross country and track and field teams for four years while upholding the role as captain for both sports. Lamech is thankful towards his teachers that have helped him with his journey, most notably Mr. Bacay, Mrs. Vanderbaan, and Mr. Bopell. As he graduates with this academic achievement, Lamech leaves his underclassmen with a quote from Albert Einstein: “Well done is better than well said.”

Igdaliah Obeng is a Monsoon who feels honored to graduate as part of the top students of his class. He shares that he often lacked motivation to work hard, but it feels good to know that his effort and diligence rewarded him. He congratulates all the rest of the top students as well. Additionally, Igdaliah expresses his thankfulness for his great teachers and their passions in what they teach. After graduation, he plans on attending Cerritos College with the goal of becoming an RN. During his time at Mayfair, Igdaliah was involved in the Mayfair Academic Program for four years. He is grateful for the work of Señora Miranda who showed him kindness, and was always friendly and thoughtful. He reflects on how she created a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in her class as well as ensured that everyone receives the support they need to succeed. She balances enjoying the class and getting their work done. Furthermore, Igdaliah expresses his thankfulness towards Mrs. Fagan who, despite teaching seventh grade world history virtually, tried her best to teach the content. He says that the class is the main reason history is his favorite subject which he continues to love learning about. As he leaves Mayfair High School, he leaves a quote to future Monsoons: “Goals are like blueprints; you need to put in the effort to turn them into reality.”

Andrew Tan is graduating alongside the top ten of the 2026 class with a 4.46 GPA. Being able to pursue this academic achievement, he feels proud of himself. He expresses that becoming one of the top scholars was a goal of his since the beginning of high school. After graduation, he plans to attend UC Irvine to pursue pre-dentistry. Andrew was a senior athlete who was involved in the frosh track and field and cross country teams during his freshman year. Moreover, he participated in the boys junior varsity tennis team for two years while holding the position of co-captain during his junior year. In addition to his sports, Andrew’s high school career consisted of a multitude of clubs including Mayfair Academic Program, Environmental Science Club, Mayfair Key Club, California Scholarship Federation, and the National Honors Society. He was an active community member of Mayfair as he spent four years in MAP and three in ESC. Additionally, he spent two years in MKC, CSF, and NHS. During his senior year, he served as publicist for CSF. Andrew expresses his gratitude to Mr. Tran, Mr. Bacay, Mr. Headley, Ms. Colln, Mrs. Valenzuela, Mr. Eastham, Mrs. Mckay and Ms. Luo for their contributions to his academic excellence. As he leaves his Monsoon legacy and enters a new chapter of his life, Andrew shares this quote for future generations: “Rejection is redirection as everything happens for a reason.”
