The Battle of the Milk Bucket
To Mayfair high school, The Milk Bucket is one of the most important and hyped up games of the season. Every year, the Battle of the Milk Bucket is held between the Lakewood High School Lancers and the Mayfair High School Monsoons.
For this special event, the trophy is an old metal milk pail that is mounted on a wooden frame. This tradition dates back to 1962, where the area around the two schools had open pastures where cows roamed and had family-owned dairy farms.
To keep this tradition up, the annual Battle of the Milk Bucket is held between the two high schools for the chance to win and keep the trophy for display until the next match. And since this year's battle was held on 9/11, the theme had been red, white, and blue to remember the day. The game had been fun for all students and parents alike, especially with the food provided by the PTSA and staff. There were many fun challenges throughout and moments where the crowd cheered and held its breath while watching.
But then there was a commotion. The police had come and scoped the stadium out. It turns out someone had reported another having a weapon and their plans to make a racket. This warranted concern among the crowd only for it to be a false threat. One guy had brought a laser to the match and had been pointing it around. He did not have any weapon of the sort. After the police left the stadium, they announced that the people at the match were not in any danger of any sort and were fine to stay. However, some police officers remained to ensure the safety of the people. The game then ended with Mayfair's loss of the milk bucket and Lakewood’s win of 17-24.
Our monsoons as they cheer our team on.
