Trump’s most recent assassination attempt was on April 25, 2026 during the White House Correspondents Dinner. The assault was carried out by a man named Cole Tomas Allen. He managed to break past security with knives, a shotgun, and a pistol. As soon as he got in, it is reported that he ran 60 feet towards the ballroom where Trump was sitting and a sudden burst of gunfire occurred. Security quickly came to Trump, Vance, and their families assistance to safety.

The dinner itself had over 2,000 guests and were all forced to take cover under their tables during the incident. Allen was quickly taken into custody after the attack. He was charged with attempted assassination, transporting firearms between state lines, and discharging a firearm during an act of violence. There was only one person injured which was one of the secret service agents who was trying to protect the people. He had one shot to the chest but his bullet-proof vest saved him from a severe injury. There were no other injuries reported from the high ranking officials to the other guests and journalists.

On April 27, Allen went to court in Washington D.C and agreed to remain in jail until it is time for his trial. This incident has also led to Secret Service agents going under investigation again because this has now been the third time Trump’s life has been threatened these past couple years. Trump also used this case to promote his $400 million ballroom project in the White House so he will have more safety. The dinner was also canceled for the rest of the night but it is planned to be rescheduled soon.

Following the attempted assassination, a reporter asked him whether he was concerned or not about future possibilities of a fourth shooting and he said, "I don't think about it. And if I did, I wouldn't be doing a very good job here," he said. "I'd be thinking about nothing but that. I don't think about it. I really don't. I don't think about it. If I did, I wouldn't be effective." A reporter also commented about the agent who was shot and managed to survive with his bullet proof vest and Trump responded with, “Frankly, the vest did an amazing job because it took a bullet close up," Trump said. "And he didn't even want to go to the hospital. I mean, we sent him to the hospital just in case, but he didn't want (to). You know, it's still a hit. But, he didn't want to go to the hospital. The vest totally protected him.”

To conclude, this incident has led to a lot of security issues within the current administration and also to a lot of concerns to the future attendees of these events. Thankfully, no one was severely injured and the case will be handled properly in court. Going forward, meetings with high ranking officials should be guarded more carefully so attacks like these don’t occur as much as they do.
