Kiara Owens is a 12th grader here at our Mayfair campus. She is a dedicated student with great Monsoon pride. She started cheer because her brother was in football. They made a team just for fun since they had to be at all the games anyway. Cheer wasn’t something she chose to do, but she ended up loving it. She has taken breaks away from it but she has always come back to it. The competitions and being able to be with a team is what she has loved most. Kiara has been in cheer for eight years now. These last four years for her have been with Mayfair, but she did two teams before. She doesn't plan to do cheer after high school but she is open to it. Even though she has gone through times when she didn’t want the sport, she still always loved it and was very dedicated to it. Kiara Owens says that one of her favorite competitions is Jamz. It’s a big national competition held in Vegas. She says that she never competed at this competition with Mayfair, but she did in the past. With another team she has done Cheer Pros, USA Spirit Nationals, CIF, State, and more. We asked Kiara Owens how she feels on being 2X CIF Champions she says, “Being a 2X CIF Champion feels amazing. My first year, I was honestly very surprised because I didn’t feel we performed our best but we ended up being called first place and we all ran and fell on each other. The second time around, I had an amazing feeling about our routine and felt that we won and that’s exactly what happened. My team is very hardworking and I feel that now we can make our routine even more competitive.” Kiara's favorite subject is Forensic Science. She likes that they can watch a lot of documentaries and that the teacher is really cool. She also added that they learn about a lot of crimes and how police work to find what happened.
Kiara has been at Mayfair since she was in 7th grade, but it was online because of COVID. She ended up starting in-person in 8th grade and ever since. She aspires to make people proud; she doesn't ever want to ever be the reason why her team doesn't win or the reason something goes wrong. After high school, Kiara Owens plans on attending Cerritos College and taking their Real Estate course. She wants to be able to be her own boss and control her own success. Depending on what is best for her at the time, she says that maybe she will transfer to a four-year university. What Kiara likes to do in her free time is watch movies with her parents. She says that her dad always saves movies for her and her mom to watch with him. So if she is not at practice, school, or out with her friends she is at home with her parents.
