Six Flags' Goliath Ride Turns Deadly
On Monday, October 12, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., there was an accident on the Goliath roller coaster where a 42-year-old man by the name of Hassan Jihad In Karim fell off. As a result of this incident, the Cobb County Police Department's Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation to further research this matter. Then, as a precaution, the Six Flags Park temporarily closed nine similar coasters across its parks in the United States and Canada. When this incident occurred, investigators and witnesses reported that Kariem was ejected from the Goliath roller coaster during the ride, struck other patrons, and fell beneath the attraction. It was reported that many other riders sustained injuries.
Hassan Kariem was described as a passionate educator and a dedicated family man who loved bringing joy to the rest of the family and bringing people together. Kariem worked at Atlanta Public Schools, where he served as an IT manager and a technology teacher in robotics at Wesley International Academy, where he worked for over 12 years. According to the story, "His love for Wesley, dedication to our students, and commitment to our school community were evident in everything he did," Wesley International Academy said in a statement, "Mr. Karim was deeply loved and respected, and his absence will be felt throughout our school community." Furthermore, his death will impact many of his loved ones, and he will be deeply missed for all his contributions.
The day that the incident occurred, he attended the park alongside his partner, her daughter, and her niece. It was reported that he was seated next to his partner’s niece when the incident occurred, but relatives confirmed that she was not injured by this tragedy. It was reported that he clashed with other riders prior to his last moments. The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire in Georgia, alongside the Cobb County Police Major Crimes Unit, has launched an in-depth forensic investigation. In addition, investigators are focusing heavily on rider size, seat posture, and whether the electronic green-light safety dispatch system failed to register an unlocked restraint. Fellow educators visiting the park exclusively have also revealed that Goliath was completely shut down for maintenance just hours before the tragedy. This isn’t the first time that an incident like this has occurred in a theme park. For example, according to The Guardian, “Last year, a 32-year-old man died after riding a high-speed rollercoaster at the Universal Epic Universe theme park in Florida. He died from blunt impact injuries and his death was ruled accidental.” After incidents like this occur in theme parks, it's relatively important for them to place precautions, which are currently taking place at Six Flags.
It's evident that this tragedy will mark many hearts of the people who cherished him in his lifetime, like his family members, colleagues, friends, students, and many more people out there. It’s important to remember that roller coasters need to be controlled and maintained in a proper manner to prevent more events like these from happening. In this case of Six Flags, we can see clearly that witnesses are expressing their concerns and the park is setting some rules to keep it safe for all. It is also crucial that Six Flags looks over this matter to set new regulations to keep people safe in the future. To conclude, Karim will always be cherished by the people who appreciated him. We hope for the best for the family’s loss and the people’s lives impacted.
