Club Spotlight: Mayfair CSF

I had the opportunity to interview Carlos Dominguez, the Vice President of Mayfair CSF. Working alongside Carlos are President Alan Rodriguez, Secretary Rylee Aihara, and Publicist Kyleigh Tan. I asked Carlos a series of questions about CSF and what they do on our campus.
Q. What exactly is CSF, and what is its main purpose at our school?
A. CSF stands for “California Scholarship Federation.” We are a state academic organization dedicated to providing scholarships and educational opportunities to our members. Our main goal locally is to direct members to scholarships and provide insight into what life looks like after high school by visiting colleges and holding alumni visits.
Q. What is the biggest goal you have for CSF this school year, and how are you planning to achieve it?
A. This year, my biggest goal is to maintain active attendance and to host more events. We had a ton of people join last year, and we want to continue providing opportunities for them to be successful in college.
Q. How can members make an impact in CSF?
A. In terms of formal titles, we only have four positions: President, Vice-President, Publicist, and Secretary. Once Alan and I graduate, interested members will be able to apply for our roles. If we happen to promote an existing officer into one of our spots, their role will be available as well. Aside from officer positions, members can definitely make a bigger impact in CSF by bringing new opportunities to our attention. Alan and I spend a lot of time finding resources that fit our club demographic, but if any of our members find any opportunities, sharing that information is a great way to contribute to the club.
Q. What inspired you to become vice president of CSF?
A. I wanted to learn more about leadership and what it takes to manage a club. Being a vice president allowed me to grow my leadership and communication skills while preventing me from getting overwhelmed by the workload.
Q. What have you learned from being in that position?
A. First of all, don’t procrastinate on organizing club meetings! I remember that back when I started, I would stress myself the night before a meeting because I had left off making the slideshow. When you're in charge of something like CSF, though, waiting until the last minute isn’t really an option. I also learned the importance of communication. That might be generic advice, but keeping your officer team in the loop is really important if you want them to keep doing their jobs.
Q. What unique opportunities does CSF offer?
A. Our scholarship meetings and resources are the most unique opportunities we offer. We also have a senior scholarship, stole, and cord for our long-time members. CSF is similar to MAP in that we offer field trips and alumni visits to our members. We try not to do the same things, though, so that our members are able to learn new information.
Thank you to Carlos for the opportunity to interview you! I am excited to participate in CSF, and I look forward to the next meeting!
