I decided to write a student spotlight on senior Samantha Garcia, who is on the Girl's Varsity Tennis Team. I asked her questions about what she plans to accomplish on the tennis team and what her goals are for herself.

Q: When did you first know that you wanted to play tennis?

A: “I first knew I wanted to play tennis when a really good friend of mine would talk about it. It really got me curious because to me, tennis seemed like a simple sport so hearing about it in detail made me really interested and I figured I should give it a shot.”

Q: Tell us about yourself, and what is your favorite food?

A: ”A little bit about myself, my favorite color is green and I have quite a big family but I love it. My favorite food would have to be Ruby's Thai kitchen, I could eat it forever”

Q: How did you feel when you made it into the varsity tennis girls team?

A: ”When I found out I made the girls varsity team it really made me feel a sense of accomplishment and it really came to show that all my hard work paid off. I knew that all those hours in the sun weren't for nothing. Now going into season I couldn’t be more happier and I’m stoked to see all my progress.”

Q: What are your favorite hobbies to do outside of tennis?

A: ”My favorite hobbies outside of tennis, well I love to hangout with my family. I really value my time with them as well as my friends. I love the little circle I have in my life, they're so supportive. Something else I love to do is shop, I love looking at different clothes and I love the confidence I get when I wear something new.”

Q: What do you look forward to the most of senior year?

A: “Something I look forward to this senior year is cherishing the times I have with all my peers. I'm looking forward to new experiences, a lot of first & lasts. This year is really teaching me how to live in the moment and to be grateful for the people around me.”

Q: What is a goal you personally have for yourself?

A: ”A personal achievement I have for myself is to get better at studying and staying focused, I'm a very hyper person so my brain can’t always focus on one thing. So I'm learning to take a deep breath and slow down and I feel that once I can learn to have a better attention span then I have finally reached my goal.”

Q: To the future freshmen, what advice do you have for them?

A: ”My advice to future freshmen would be to stay focused on your classes and not to care about what anyone has to say. Once I stopped caring about others' opinions I became so much happier.”

Q: Lastly, after you graduate, what do you plan on doing?

A: ”After I graduate, I plan on going to a 2 year community college and then transfer with a major in psychology as I want to be a clinical therapist for teenagers who may not always have a safe space in their lives.”

Thank you Sam, for being the best senior ever and for letting me do this interview! Good luck on your tennis season.
