Opinion: Mayfair Backyard BBQ

On Friday, March 20th, there was a BBQ during middle and high school lunch for students with a decent GPA and attendance. They released the students 15 minutes before lunch started to receive an extended lunch. While arriving, many students claimed to have a negative experience, including myself.
A sophomore here at Mayfair, Ferrol Nkwenji, voiced her opinion on the BBQ.
Q: Did you enjoy the experience?
A: “No I did not. It was not what I was promised and it was not what was on the flyer.”
Q:What did you like or dislike about it?
A: “The only part about it that I enjoyed was that there were popsicles. However, I disliked how they pulled us out of class early but had us wait for a long time in the sun before letting us in the MPB to get a basic school lunch when they said it was going to be a BBQ.”
Q: What can be changed for a future event?
A: “Maybe in the future, flyers should be created by students and accurately represent the event and we should focus on getting rewards for our students such as pizza that everyone can enjoy instead of giving a promise of something you can’t provide. The GPA minimum should be raised to a 3.0 because implying that a 2.5 is adequate enough to be rewarded will cause students not to strive for higher grades or GPA.”
I asked the same questions to another sophomore and Jasline Samson for their opinions as well. The sophomore states, “It was fun for the simple fact that we got policies but that is it, I disliked that they gave us school food instead of BBQ. They shouldn’t spread false advertisements.” Jasline answers, “No. Immediate no. I didn’t like anything about it. First of all, they’re so adamant about us staying in class but they’re gonna make us waste 15 minutes of class time that they claim to be so important. The idea of a backyard BBQ is very ironic because there was no BBQ at all. It was cafeteria lunch mixed with cheap popsicles. I believe that if you want to reward students for their scholarly decisions, make an adequate decision yourself. Inform the students better. Organize the event so that it is more collected.”
Overall, I believe that the backyard bbq was a false advertisement to the students who were able to go. I personally know many students of all grades that were looking forward to having a good lunch then becoming disappointed with what was actually served. In the future, the school should advertise a more realistic point of view of events like these so students know what to expect. I think that the concept of the BBQ was a good idea but it was not executed in a way that the students expected based off of the poster. All in all, I hope the next event will reward high performing students with an event that they can all look forward to.

Finding cost-effective solutions for removing unwanted structures is a common concern, especially when budgets are tight and professional services seem expensive. Looking into mobile home removal for free can sometimes lead you to contractors or buyers willing to take the unit if they can salvage materials or resell parts. While not always guaranteed, networking locally and posting listings online can increase your chances of finding someone willing to handle removal without charging you.
