The No Kings protests are internationally known as the No Dictators or No Tyrants protests. These protests are a series of demonstrations largely in the United States against what the organizers describe as authoritarian policies and corruption of Donald Trump’s administration. The event was one of more than 2,700 “No Kings” rallies held across the country on October 18th which organizers describe as President Donald Trump's “authoritarian” agenda. Nearly 7 million people showed up on the Saturday rallies including more than 100,00 people in New York. The largely peaceful protest followed a summer mass of immigration raiders, demonstrations against federal immigration enforcements, and the deployment of federal troops into Democratic led cities. Some of the protesters wore yellow, a symbol of unity and a reference to the other nonviolent resistance movements. According to the protestors, “Yellow is a bright, unmistakable reminder that millions of us stand together in the belief that America belongs to its peoples, not to kings.” Another protester stated that “In the sixties, we wanted to expand rights, women's rights, gay rights, minority rights, voting rights but all that's being taken away now. Our entire democracy is being threatened by the basic tenets of the press and the judiciary,” she states. Many of the protesters called out of what they feel is a threat to freedom of expression in the USA. In Los Angeles, there were salsa bands playing and the protestors dancing in costumes waving pride flags, Mexican flags, and American flags. At least one of the protesters was spotted holding the manga pirate flag from the popular 1997 Japanese manga One Piece. The flag has gained a new life as the symbol for the youth-led protests movements in Asia. All of the ten ”No Kings” protests have been peaceful! The No Kings Protest has been organized as the largest single day protest in U.S history!
