Out of the many staff that is leaving Mayfair, Mr. Sneddon, the biology and Environmental Science teacher that has taught many students here at Mayfair, is leaving us to continue his educational journey outside of Mayfair. What are his plans and what are his thoughts on his sudden transition?
The following interview is done outside the gym before the Senior Farewell Assembly:
What is the purpose of you leaving Mayfair?
“I got a good opportunity. I've been to Santa Barbara County in Santa Maria. I have a lot of family up there and I've always wanted to move up there. It's the time of my life and career that things kind of fell into place up there. So I'll be going to Santa Maria High School and Hancock College. So I got two offers to go up there. So as difficult as it is to leave Mayfair, it was like a once in a lifetime opportunity where both jobs get offered. It was a good opportunity.”
What are you going to teach up over at the new district?
“It's still going to be biology based. They haven't given me my full schedule, but either biology, Anatomy and Physiology, or even Environmental Science. Same stuff I've done at Mayfair and then there'll be non-majors biology at the community college.”
What's one thing you’re gonna miss about Mayfair?
“Just the culture here. I mean, my friends are Mr. McCabe and Mr. Boss. Everybody here is like best friends. I've definitely stayed in touch with them, the students like yourself and all the students I've had, even though you're leaving too. But yeah, I'll definitely miss the on-campus culture.”
Is there any last words you have for Mayfair?
“I wish you guys the best. You're in a good spot. You got a nice science building there. You have teachers that are here to support you in your next journey. So keep it up, work hard and reach for the stars. Thank you very much”
Many teachers and students are leaving and a good science teacher is leaving the district to pursue higher dreams. Once a Monsoon, always a Monsoon.
