After 31 years of teaching, Mr. Geddy has finally decided to retire and have an end to his career. In an interview with him, he shared what his thoughts, lessons and experiences throughout his career were.
What inspired Mr. Geddy's desire to become a teacher was the fact that he has a love for learning and also likes to share knowledge with others. He has always liked school and still does to this day. Even being an adult, he finds joy when teaching other people and learning new things.
Throughout his career, Mr. Geddy shares that he will never forget the moment he first started teaching. He says that that day to him was the beginning of a long and very successful career. He also mentioned that the biggest lessons he was taught by his students are compassion and humanity, and that it is always good to have those.
As a teacher he notices that there has been a lot of change since he has started teaching. He says, “The expectations that are put on teachers and students have grown, and the level of technology being used is the biggest change.” A special memory he still has is from his first year. The students from back then had truly shown him how rewarding being a teacher can be. He is glad that that year went in a good direction, making his first year memorable and actually wanting to go forward with teaching.
After these three decades and a year that he has been teaching, he says that he still actually likes teaching and is not burned out from it. Continuing into his retirement, Mr. Geddy plans to get a ton of sleep, support his son with his golf journey, and possibly work at junior golf tournaments so he has something on his hands. The one thing that Mr. Geddy really wants to find is a new purpose just like the one teaching gave him.
