On March 5, 2024, was the day of the Fair where there was different sorts of information shared towards all students. Some events that occurred during the Prefair were the 9th grade presentations. For the middle schoolers to know what to expect from the next four years of High School. My advice to those who are unsure of what to choose for their classes or electives; I say to try all different sorts of things, maybe try something that you are passionate about. Rather than choosing an elective/class that you’re not enjoying and not fully loving the experience of the course. Furthermore, there were Community Resources presentations that give out all different types of services. Some examples being the services of Southern California Rehabilitation Services (SCRS-IL) which is a non-profit organization that helps individuals with disabilities in order to make them independent and successful in their later future endeavors. Moreover, there is this program called The Whole Child, this organization helps families to help children that deal with early mental health issues such as psychosis. This organization tries to help families raise physically and emotionally healthy children. Additionally, there’s the Downey Federal Credit Union (DFCU) which provides memberships to help you manage your finances and savings. I highly recommend some of the services that are offered. If you think you need one of these services or know someone that can use these services, I would recommend sharing this information with others. I will later mention other organizations for those who are interested for more information.
Moving forward, Principal Diaz gave a speech giving thanks to all the programs and staff for doing their best every day. After the principal's wonderful speech, it was time for students to check out the classes that they are going to take next year. One elective I highly recommend for high schoolers is Creative Writing. This is an old elective that was returned from its tomb. I would highly recommend this if you plan on carrying out a career that contains writing or storytelling.
Additionally, I suggest for newcomers to try entering some clubs that peak your interest. Joining a club could really look good on your future college resume. It shows you are involved in school activities and that you work well in teamwork. (Depends on the club) Overall, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year and for many years to come. I believe they had done an outstanding job that night!
