Color Guard Wins First Place at Monsoon Classic

On Oct. 10, 2026, the Mayfair Monsoon Marching Corps hosted its annual “Mayfair Monsoon Classic,” welcoming 21 other schools from across Los Angeles and Orange counties. Mayfair’s color guard secured first place in its caption with a score of 71.40, earning the “high auxiliary” award. Their performances topped other regional competitors including Leuzinger High School (0), Pioneer High School (58.40), and Paramount High School (70.40).
With the California State Band Championships (CSBC) changing the format for competing schools this year with Open and normal divisions, Mayfair now competes in the regular 3A category, which is designated for developing programs with limited rehearsal schedules. The Open Class is for schools with more advanced visuals and music paired with more intensive rehearsals.
With the new format, most traditionally high-scoring groups were switched to Open Class, giving the Monsoon Marching Corps a better chance of winning the division and placing in the Grand Championships. The Mayfair Color Guard has consistently scored high in previous years, and with this realignment, they are favored to win throughout this season.
The Monsoon Marching Corps will travel to Bolsa Grande High School for its next competition on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12:44 pm/ This competition will decide whether our Monsoon band can maintain their top 10 ranking in division 3A. Come support our band and color guard as they compete against five other bands from Artesia, Santa Ana, Cabrillo, Orange, and El Modena!
