It is now Hispanic Heritage Month, with the celebration of the Hispanic community being honored. This commemoration lasts from September 15 to October 15 which gives people a full month to celebrate Hispanic lives. The Hispanic community has done so much and are a part of countless peoples’ lives. They have inspired us and touched our hearts with their culture by teaching us new things such as their various celebrations and cultural food. We as well celebrate their achievements in our community by congratulating them during this festive month.

Some background information of how this holiday ever came to be was when it was first celebrated in June of 1968. Before this introduction, the diverse ethnic backgrounds within the United States were often overlooked. Then fast forward to 1968, and a law was made (Public Law 90-498) which was basically to have the start of September 15 reserved as National Hispanic Heritage Week. This law was organized by President Lyndon B. Johnson to help his citizens acknowledge another culture.

As extensive time passed, the week was then expanded to a full month in 1987. This decision was made by the U.S. Representative Esteban E. Torres because he wanted the Hispanic community to be truly honored and for people to recognize all of their accomplishments in great honor. Then again in 1988, Senator Paul Simon submitted a bill of the same significance that was successfully signed in by former President Ronald Reagan.

This then officially made Hispanic Heritage Month a true celebration for one and all to commemorate together. Many years have passed and this festive month is still being celebrated widely everywhere. Have an amazing Hispanic Heritage Month with all your loved ones and friends!
