Mayfair Welcomes Ms. Antonio

I received an opportunity to interview our new guidance tech here at Mayfair, Mrs. Antonio. She is among many new staff members working at Mayfair this school year, and I was able to interview her about her personal life and work experience.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

A: I went to Cal State Dominguez Hills and majored in psychology with a minor in sociology, and then went to Azusa Pacific University to get my MA in educational counseling. 

Q: When you were younger, what career did you imagine having, and has that changed over time?

A: When I was younger, I wanted to be a child psychologist. Towards the end of middle school, I changed my mind to wanting to be a school psychologist. After getting more information about the responsibilities that school psychologists have, I decided that maybe being a school psychologist wouldn’t be the best career for me. During my last year of undergrad, I started to explore different career paths where I would be able to help children and young adults. My passion for education and helping young adults led me to pick my career in education. 

Q: What are some hobbies or activities you enjoy doing outside of work?

A: Outside of work I enjoy reading books, discovering new hiking trails, and watching films and tv shows.

Q: What jobs or experiences did you have before joining Mayfair?

A: I used to work for ABC Unified School District as a substitute paraeducator, which taught me the importance of working as a team to help students succeed. I also come from a retail background that taught me patience and the importance of setting systems to meet metrics. 

Q: What is your full role on campus? What are your main responsibilities?

A: I am a guidance technician at Mayfair High School, and I am located in the college and career center. I have several responsibilities, such as assisting with tracking data, assisting the college and career center with clerical duties, and occasionally assisting in other offices when needed. 

Q: What does a typical workday look like for you at Mayfair?

A: A typical day at work for me looks like turning on my computer, checking my emails, and then checking in with Ms. Reyes and Ms. Saucedo on what is happening at the College and Career Center. Then I get back on the computer and continue updating my multiple data tracking spreadsheets, which takes up the rest of my day. 

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Mayfair, and is there a particular moment or experience that stands out to you?

A: Everyone at Mayfair has been super nice, from staff to students, and has been very welcoming to me being a part of the Mayfair team. 

Q: What is one interesting or unexpected fact about you that students at Mayfair might be surprised to learn?

A: One interesting fact that students at Mayfair might be surprised to learn about me is that I am an only child.
