While Miss Contreras is out from maternity leave, we welcome Ms.Jung! She is a newly graduated substitute counselor that will be taking over while Miss Contreras is gone. I personally am very excited for her as she joins Mayfair. Here are some questions to get to know who Ms. Jung as she transitions to Mayfair!

Q: Who are you and what do you do here at Mayfair?

A: “My name is Ms.Jung; I am a substitute counselor for Miss Contreras right now. I believe she's on maternity leave, so I'm just taking over her students at the moment. So any students from Ru-Z, I will be helping them out until she comes back.”

Q: What has been your background before Mayfair?

A: “I just finished my program at USC as a school counseling program, so I graduated in August. I have interned my practicum at Gahr High School and Whitney Middle School, so I worked at ABC Unified District. Overall, my experience as a USC student I'm very honored. USC is a school that I've been wanting to go to for a very long time and I was finally able to get in. It was a wonderful two years of memories. Overall, I met wonderful professors there and my mentor at Whittney and Gahr..I’m excited to work with Mayfair High School and I've been enjoying it.”

Q:Why did you choose Mayfair?

A: “So once I graduated, I've been looking to not just jump into a full-time job because I just graduated. I still wanted to work part-time, so that I don't forget my learnings at USC. I happen to have an opportunity here that they were looking for a substitute counselor so now I'm here. I worked at ABC Unified which is literally next door. So I’m new to Bellflower, but I'm familiar with the area and just the dynamics of the school.”

Q: How has the caseload been since you took over for Mrs. Contreras work?

A: “So overall, I'm very thankful because the staff here have been very knowledgeable and supportive, so I have an easier transition. Earlier, I've just been shadowing Ms. McIntosh and Ms. Montes in all the meetings and IP’s. A lot of social emotional counseling lessons and it’s been fun. It's been a learning experience and we're currently working on next year's classrooms, so I've been doing presentations for incoming 9th graders. I like that I have responsibilities here and it's been a pretty easy transition here. Again, I'm still learning and the workload has been a good amount.”

Q: What type of music do you listen to?

A: "I am super into jazz so I like Louis Armstrong since it’s very old fashioned. I also listen to the newer artists like Olivia Dean, but I’m actually into all music. I’m Korean so I’m supposed to be into K-Pop, but I'm not really into it so much. Again, I am more into older jazz. I love a lot of pop music like Beyonce. I don't really have specific genres but I like artists that are just very expressive and just have their own character.”

Q: How different is working as a substitute counselor and being an intern at Whitney Middle School and Ghar High School?

A: "So Whittney is a very academic and high achieving school .A lot of students are doing wonderfully academically, but they feel like they aren't doing enough. Here I've been more socially emotional here. Students are struggling with relationships; students are struggling with academics, but they wanna do better, so that there’s wellness counselors. So solely, I focus on academics even at Gahr and Whittney. Here, I feel like we do all around social emotional, academics, IP’s, 504 meetings and a lot of responsibilities. I don't mind at all. I'm here to learn and grow so this is a perfect opportunity for me."
