Mayfair's Winter Coat Drive

This year, Mayfair High School participated in the winter coat drive. This winter coat drive encourages students to donate new and slightly used coats so that they can be donated to students and families who do not have access to coats. Aside from coats, students could also donate gloves, beanies, sweatshirts, overall – just anything that will keep you warm during this cold season.

This winter coat drive began on February 7th and ends on February 14th, students donate these items in their 3rd period classes. As a way of encouraging the students to donate, the top five classes with the most items that are turned in get a pizza party plus Minga points.

This winter coat drive is a great idea to get students involved while helping members of the community who aren’t fortunate enough to have nice coats for the winter.

A teacher that is very involved with this winter coat drive is Mr. Geddy: “We all have old coats we don’t wear anymore, so donating them is great. However, the pizza party is mine; it's a done deal”.

The winter coat drive is being organized by Dean Mitchell. The idea of the coat drive originally came from the Parent Teacher Student Association and the counselors of the school. So far, there have been quite a few donations from students but there is still room for more donations. Considering the success of this coat drive, there is another donation drive that is being planned for the month of March. “We’re gonna do a similar drive next month for dry food products to help those in need and students will turn in items to their third period again and the top 5 classes will receive a pizza party.” said Dean Mitchell. Overall, this drive was a great way of getting students to be involved in helping others and we hope to see many more donation drives in the future after the success that the winter coat drive has been.
