Dear Margot, “What electives do I choose?”

Finding an elective is one of the many very important things that you need during your high school years. Whether you want to try something fun or learn something on the more educational side, both middle school and high school are places to find them. The electives you pick can help with finding future career paths and new hobbies. Plus, you can find people to connect with and work with academically when you’re in these classes. Mayfair High school offers many amazing electives.

The arts have a boatload of selections to choose from. Photography, which seems to be a popular elective among students, it shows the basics of digital cameras, taking photographs, and using technical skills. Chorus, which teaches music reading, vocal techniques, and history behind music. Furthermore, the jazz band presents music theory, improvisation, and jazz harmony. Lastly, another great option is basic drawing, painting & anatomy which demonstrates students elements of arts and designs through drawing.

If you are looking for an elective that will lead you down your right career path, there are many options. Going down the construction side, the wood framing, plumbing & electrical class is your path, offering the teachings of safety procedures using power tools, machines, measurements, and many more. If you want a career in business and finance, the accounting electives help students learn about the different principles of accounting and financial techniques through projects. The different health care electives present treatments for injuries, the anatomy, physiology of people, and clinical skills.

In conclusion, pick an elective that suits your interests or future visions the best. Don’t pick one that you feel forced to do or just because your friends are doing that specific one. If you don’t enjoy the elective you’re in, there is always next year to pick one that you’ll actually enjoy. Your choice will ensure learning new skills and experiences that you’ll eventually use in the real world when it’s needed.
