Mayfair Welcomes Ms. Joseph!

I had the incredible opportunity to interview the new Speech-and-Language Therapy teacher, Ms. Joseph. It was an honor to speak to her! She was welcoming, kind, and seemed to be very passionate about what she does.
Q: What is the hardest part about your job?
A: “I feel like it can be difficult to finish evaluations, especially if there are a lot of them at one time. Some months are busier than others, but it's not very difficult.”
Q: What is one goal you hope to accomplish?
A: “I want to continue to be a voice and advocate to parents who don't have much knowledge about special education support. I would like to be a bridge to help others become more aware of all the things we have to offer. I also want to become a higher-up in special education.”
Q: What made you want to work for this school?
A: “I had friends and family that came here when they were younger, so I'm familiar with the area. I was also looking to work in areas of a community I was familiar with so Mayfair was a great fit.”
Q: What is one thing you like to do outside of work?
A: “I'm a retired cheer coach so I'll occasionally go back to my youth cheer organization and help out whenever I can. I like to roller-skate and go to the gym. I'm also a mom, so that consumes a lot of my time.”
Q: What does a normal day at work look like for you?
A: “Typing up reports, doing therapy services, emailing teachers, getting updates on how students are performing, and checking if there are any concerns that they have with their students' speech and language.”
Q:What is something you wish you could change about your profession?
A: “I wouldn't necessarily change anything. I feel as by coming into this profession, knowing that this job would involve people who were going to need help, I could be the person to provide that knowledge and support to others.”
Q: What's something that most people might not know about your job?
A: "A lot of people believe that we are just here for play, but in reality, our play has a function. There are reasons behind the activities that we choose to do. They don't really understand the purpose of the activities we chose to present.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about our school community?
A: “Stepping on campus for the first time felt like home. Everybody was so nice and welcoming. The students are awesome, and the staff and administrators are super supportive. I feel appreciated here.”
Q: Did you always want to work at a school?
A: “I always wanted to work in a school. This is where I see myself continuing throughout my profession.”
Thank you so much, Ms. Joseph, for letting me interview you and learn more about not only you personally, but the deeper meaning of your job and the effects it has on you and the students here. We are honored to have you here at Mayfair, and I hope you enjoy being a part of our community!
