New to Mayfair, Mrs. Slaughter has just joined us as a new counselor for the high schoolers. She is “temporarily” here to take Mrs. Walker’s place as Mrs. Walker is out on medical leave. Mrs. Slaughter is in her third year of counseling; she spent two years counseling for a middle school and now one year here at Mayfair High School. She attended UC Davis as an undergrad for four years and UCLA for two years before she started her counseling career. While in college, she spent three years volunteering at a juvenile center, she monitored children’s behavior and helped them find a path for their future after getting out of the centers. She kept her dream of wanting to be a correctional officer for years, but dropped the dream once she became a counselor for school. She had taken an after school business class for UCLA. She didn’t take any sports and took AP classes. She took AP Spanish, AP GOV, AP English, Yearbook, and ASB her years in high school.

She has been married for two years, nearly three now, and has one dog she calls her child, Milo. She and her husband met online during COVID. Mrs. Slaughter has one sibling who works at UCLA and is 30 years old. They have a close relationship despite their age gap. She has a different style when it comes to counseling. She is less pushy and more patient when it comes to college, and understands that there are different ways to be successful other than attending college. She is super laid back and will always have her door open for students. She cares about student’s grades and wants them to change their academic habits for the better. The difference between counseling high school and middle school is a pretty big gap, since middle school focuses on emotion and less on their future while high school is more academic focus.

She helps students with disabilities, shy kids, kids at risk of being transferred to alternative schools, and anyone who comes to her door. She is super inclusive and cares heavily about her students' futures. She influences kids to do good, giving reminders that she is a safe space to be around.
