The Oklahoma City Thunder are heading to the NBA finals for the first time since 2012 after a dominant 124-94 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on May 28, 2025. This victory clinched the Western Conference Finals in five games, with Shai Gilgeous Alexander leading the win. He scored 34 points, adding 8 assists and 7 rebounds while Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren contributed 19 and 22 points. The Thunder’s defense was really intense. Forcing 21 turnovers and building a lead early in the game. This marks a significant achievement  for the Thunder who have been on a remarkable journey since their last Finals appearance. The team finished the regular season with a league best 68-14 record, showing their dominance throughout the year. Shai Gilgeous Alexander who was named the 2025 NBA MVP has been instrumental in the team’s success, averaging 31.4 points per game in the playoffs and earning the Western Conference Finals MVP award. The Thunder’s road to the Finals has been impressive. They swept the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round, defeated the Denver Nuggets in a seven game series and then faced the Timberwolves. Their performance has been really amazing especially considering their youth and inexperience on the big stage. Looking ahead, the Thunder are set to face either the Indiana Pacers or the New York Knicks in the NBA finals, with Game 1 scheduled for June 5, 2025. With home court advantage and a roster with talent and confidence, Oklahoma City is poised to make a strong push for their first NBA championship since the franchise’s relocation from Seattle.
