This new “The Batman” movie is a fresh and interesting take on the series. The visual style is appealing, and different from past Batman movies. The use of shadows, night, and camera angles is very visually appealing. The cast was spectacular as well, with Robert Pattinson cast as the new Batman and Paul Dano as the Riddler.
While this Batman is definitely very unique, the commentary and story it presents, as always, relatable and human. It’s down to earth, with lots of easily identifiable gray areas. Batman and the antagonist of the movie aren’t supernatural, they’re human.
The Riddler in this movie isn’t a cliche know-it-all riddle-giver like in some of the comics and other media. Instead, the Riddler is portrayed as a somewhat insane zodiac killer type, using social media, riddles, and puzzles to guide Batman. I genuinely think this portrayal of the Riddler is special, and provides a unique commentary on our modern world, where violence makes the best media.
Overall, I highly recommend this movie, even if it runs at 2 hours and 56 minutes it never feels boring or forced. Just when it feels like it’s concluding, another twist extends the movie another 30 minutes. I truly enjoyed this movie, and give it a 5/5 rating.
