This Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, our campus hosted a suicide prevention awareness activity during high school and middle school lunch. This event had an interactive Wellness Booth set up  on the side of the library, which drew a large crowd of students. At the booth, there was a “Wellness Wheel” which students were able to spin for a chance to win a prize or answer a thoughtful question, such as, “what makes you smile? What makes you feel calm? Who makes you laugh?”  This wheel served as a simple but meaningful conversation starter between students and faculty.

Students were also able to interact with a large sign that read “Life is Worth Living Because…” Many students took the opportunity to add personal messages or encouraging words such as, “ you are strong, everyone matters, Jesus loves you, you can always try again, peaceful minds get you somewhere new, and you can find comfort in your loved ones.”

In addition to the wheel and sign, there were colorful paper hearts where students were able to write down inspirational quotes, encouraging messages, or uplifting words. These heart cutouts are going to be hung  from trees all around campus for students to take, serving as a reminder to anyone having a difficult day or anyone looking for a word of encouragement. There were also stickers and encouraging word hearts that students could take with them.

Personally, I think having this activity was great and highly impactful.  It showed a strong sense of community but also actively encouraged students to interact and engage with our school’s Wellness faculty. This might have broken down some of their barriers surrounding the wellness center or reaching out for mental health support. As the week went on, I personally noticed all the different stations around campus that have uplifting messages or physical sticky notes that you can take with you as a small reminder of encouragement.

Additionally, the hearts are hanging from all the trees around campus, and they add a welcoming and creative way to spread a positive vibe or offer a quick way to lift up someone having a difficult day. Sometimes, a simple sticky note or a word of encouragement is exactly what someone needs to hear. Events like this remind us that mental health awareness shouldn't just be limited to a single month or just a single Wednesday; by taking these small messages or supporting one another, it reminds us to be more kind and supportive every day.
