Starbucks’s New Chestnut Praline Latte and Chocolate Pistachio Swirl Review

Starbucks’s new Chocolate Pistachio Swirl is a cinnabon based pastry. There is chocolate hidden on the bread with pistachio toppings and it’s 280 calories, 13g sugar and 11g fat and costs $3.85. After receiving my order, I found that it was a round medium size looking cinnamon bun. I was expecting a flavorful bite, but instead I was thrown off by its bland taste.

It wasn’t really what I expected or hoped for, as Starbucks’s page describes it as a “Brioche inspired dough, cream cheese filling with cocoa and cinnamon, in a spiral, topped with pistachios.” The chocolate pistachio lacked the cream cheese filling and cinnamon, although the texture was very soft and doughy. The only pro of the pastry was the texture which was rather enjoyable, but the missing flavor cannot be overlooked. On the other hand, the new Chestnut Praline Latte was definitely worth my money, as a hot cup of the Chestnut Praline Latte is perfect for the winter season. Starbucks describes it by saying, “First we begin with our signature espresso and velvety steamed milk, and then add flavors of caramelized chestnuts and spices—all topped with a holiday finale of whipped cream and specially spiced praline crumbs.” The sweet whip cream with a sprinkle of praline crumbs definitely topped it off. The latte was smooth and sweet and not only does the sprinkle of praline give it an extra sweet taste, but also a light crunch. I would definitely recommend it to Starbucks lovers and personally buy it again.
