Pay for Verification Twitter

The new owner of Twitter, the one and only Elon Musk, is thinking about letting people pay to become verified. In my opinion, I don’t fully agree with this change that Musk wants to add to Twitter. The reason I don’t agree with it and others who most likely are thinking the same is because I believe it should only be for celebrities and businesses. The reason being is because the verification proves that they are who they are claiming to be. For example, it can show the real Dwayne Johnson’s account and not a fake impersinator. According to Elon Musk’s tweet on Tuesday, he stated “Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.”

The problem with Elon adding this feature to Twitter is that it will mess up Twitter's reputation in my opinion due to the fact that everyone will be verified and copying celebrities accounts. Musk knows about this issue that celebrities and businesses are thinking about. Musk replied to a tweet someone replied to saying, “What happens when a random user pays $8 and changes his Display name to Elon Musk, using your same profile pic and starters tweeting like he’s you?” Musk responded to this by saying “That already happens very frequently.” This in my opinion will ruin Twitter and the user rates of celebrities may drop.

In Elon Musk’s mind, it's all about the money. I mean, think about it: letting everyone be verified for a price, you would be making even more money and would satisfy customers and would increase user rates on Twitter. I understand that Elon is viewing this in a business perspective which is good for him and the company. So the question here is, is Musk doing this to make back the $44 billion dollars he spent on Twitter? Or does he just want his name even more out there and his customers satisfied?
