Mayfair Monsoon Esports, once a small, Smash-centered program that began after the pandemic, has now grown into a diverse platform consisting of both different types of games and students. While this was no solo endeavor, most of the progress made by the program would be impossible without the main mind behind it all, Mr. “Wiz” Palacios. His commitment to making this platform as great as it can be, through his honest coaching and non-stop improvement of the monthly Eye of the Storm tournaments, have allowed Mayfair’s esports program to flourish into what it is today. In fact, his contributions to the Monsoon Esports platform have been so impactful that they’ve gained him national recognition, as he has been nominated for the PlayVS Level Up Award, an award meant to recognize the most game-changing members of the scholastic esports community. Here is what Wiz had to say about being nominated for this award:
“It has been a true honor to be nominated for a national award in the esports community. The past ten years of my life have been amazing and equally challenging. Grit, blood, sweat, tears, and endless hours of work are the sacrifices needed to be successful in anything. Esports is not just playing games, it's breaking down social walls, it's using your imagination to create beautiful visuals and environments for people to enjoy, and it is all inclusive for everyone to enjoy no matter where you come from or what life challenges you may have that others may not. Come play with us on the Monsoon Esports platform. We challenge you!”
As of writing this article, the window to vote has closed, but results will be announced in early June.
