Today, on October 28, 2025, there was an electrical issue in the 200 wing of Mayfair high school. This caused immediate concern for the people in the wing and issued for those in range to move to the gym for the time being. Many students, teachers, and admin were alarmed so the fire station was called in order to assess the situation.

One student reported that other people should stop falsely pulling the fire alarm because situations similar to this one could occur again.

Another student in a class where the issue happened reported that they could smell with their nose something electrical that was out of the ordinary.

A PTA member said that they could smell burning and how it alarmed them when an admin said that they needed to call the fire department.

Mr. Cunningham, specifically, said that they initially called for a bad spell and then it was later proven that it was a false alarm that occurred.

At 12:59 pm, an email was sent out saying,

“Earlier, a smoky, electrical odor was detected in the 200 wing. Out of an abundance of caution:

- Students in odd-numbered rooms were evacuated to the gym.

- The fire department was called and has cleared the campus safe to occupy.

- Maintenance is working to restore the AC unit in that wing.

Students will return to class once the AC is running. Thank you for your patience and support.”

One of the English teachers involved with the incident reported that she escorted her students to room 301 and how in her 25 years of teaching, the fire alarm going off was never a serious alarm, so having this one being real was exciting in a way. She also said that it was a huge distraction since her class, specifically, was writing their district essay. It took them a lot to get back on track and to finish up their essay, which caused her to be worried about the quality of their essay and the grade that they will receive on it.

Luckily, no one was injured from the incident. Being near the issue was a shocking experience for me, but I am thankful that everything turned out to be okay. I am glad the school acted quickly on it and that it didn’t turn into a more serious issue than it already was. Stay tuned to The WindJammer for more future updates!
