Is Bronny James Ready for the NBA?

With the NBA preseason kicking off at the end of the week, there is much controversy going on about Bronny James joining the NBA league. With Lebron James, one of the greatest basketball players ever, as the father of Bronny James, all eyes are on him. Bronny was selected as the 55th pick to the Los Angeles Lakers and will play alongside his father.

Bronny was only a freshman at USC when he declared for his NBA draft, leaving many people wondering if Bronny is even ready for high-level basketball. Unfortunately in college, Bronny went through cardiac arrest during practice and had to sit out for most of the season. Because he missed most of the season, his stats were low: 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. 

Lakers fans are worried about this upcoming season because they know that the hopes of winning the NBA finals are slim to none. The Lakers and Boston Celtics have been tied for most NBA championships, with 17, but Boston won the 2024 finals which put them on top. The Lakers struggled last season with a record of 47-35 and being eliminated in the first round of playoffs. Towards the end of the season, the Lakers announced that they will be firing their head coach, Darvin Ham. The Lakers hired a new coach, JJ Redick, as the new coach for the upcoming season, although he does not have good experience as a head coach. Now with Bronny James joining the squad, many fans worry about the lack of talent and experience for the team this upcoming season. 

Many people believe that there was too much pressure put on Bronny once his dad made it known he wanted to play with his son before he retired. A great number of basketball fans believe that Bronny only got drafted into the NBA because of his dad and that if he was somebody else, he would not even be granted the option.

Even though many people will continue to believe Bronny isn’t ready for NBA basketball, watching the games will be a wholesome experience. No NBA player has ever played alongside his son or let alone be on the same team even.  It's safe to say that this basketball season will be the first of many.
