Fall Sports Assembly
The sounds of cheering, music, memes, and school spirit filled the stands as Mayfair High School hosted its fall sports assembly. The event brought students and all fall sports together to celebrate the seniors and the upcoming season!
The assembly opened with the fall sports teams running into the gym, where they were celebrated with a spirit line from the cheerleaders and students. Mrs. Mac welcomed them and announced each sport. The band played the National Anthem before the teams were introduced. Girls volleyball, girls golf, varsity cross country, varsity flag football, varsity girls tennis, and varsity football were all recognized. Each team performed a practiced dance as they were called up by Mrs. Mac.
The energy continued with a special performance by our school mascots, Brizzy and Stormy, who announced that Homecoming will take place on Saturday, October 10th. As the lights dimmed, games and additional performances followed, keeping everyone excited.
One of the first games that they played was called “Shake It Off,” where Shaheen and Irving joined and did their best to win. The assembly then started to recognize the senior fall sports athletes and band members, celebrating their time, effort, and participation over the years, which was really nice and somewhat emotional.
After that, Mrs. Mac announced another game called “Wig Snatch,” which featured Mr. Headley, Subtle, Bacani, Tran, Irving, and Schneider. ASB also puts on a dance performance which, in my opinion, grows better every year and keeps the energy high throughout the gym, which is pretty cool.
The band and the students performed a “Bust the Internet” routine, which was interesting because the lyrics like, “Gator boots with pimped-out Gucci suits ain’t got no job, but I still shine, can’t pay my rent, all my money spent, but that’s okay ‘cause I’m still fly.” These lines made the students in the stand sing along as the band played. Even though it was quite cringe, it was funny, made sense, and was quite catchy.
Cheer and color guards started working hand-in-hand to perform the monsoon anthem. It is always fun to see the color guard and cheer team do their thing, especially Varsity Cheer closing out the performances with their final dance.
Before the whole assembly ended, students were reminded about Homecoming tickets and informed that this year’s theme is “Viva Las Vegas.” The upcoming Mayfair game was also announced, giving kids another chance to get involved, have fun, and make memories with everyone and to show their support!
The assembly concluded with the Alma Mater, which brought together on the floor in the dark. It gave the athletes and students a chance to celebrate the fall season together, and I personally cannot wait personally to attend each game and watch them give it their all.
