After serving two years as principal of Mayfair Middle and High School, our former principal, Mr. Diaz, was promoted to be the Director of Student Service and Guidance in the Bellflower Unified School District office. As we close the chapter of his time at Mayfair, we open the beginning of our new principal, Dr. Jennifer Morgan. Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, she has been performing her role as Mayfair’s principal, introducing herself to the school community and demonstrating her leadership towards students and faculty.

Dr. Morgan is currently in her 27th year as an educator, as she had previously served as a middle and high school math teacher and counselor. “Teaching is probably my favorite position that I’ve ever done,” she states. She also adds that she has 14 years of experience as administrator in the middle and high school levels. When The Windjammer interviewed about her transition from teaching to administration, she expressed her desire for personal advancement. “I love teaching math, but I always needed personal growth,” she explains. “So at different times throughout my career, I was ready for new challenges where I could impact a greater number of kids.” Her self-driven purpose led her to expand her educational journey to take on the role as principal.

As she continues on this new pathway, Dr. Morgan expresses gratitude for her welcome to the Mayfair community. “I’ve had a really good experience,” she says. “I love working with the staff, they’re very focused on the students.” Additionally, she takes note of the customs and traditions of the community. “The school has a strong sense of tradition and spirit that brings a sense of belonging to the kids,” she states. “I’ve been very lucky to already get to meet so many kids and parents through our PTSA.” She describes Mayfair as a “tiny little city with 2,400 kids being teenagers” in which she tries to find their place with a school that offers lots of programs and a lot of caring doors. Her vision for the school’s future is to work with different stakeholders to provide an excellent education experience for students. In order for that vision to come to fruition, she says, “It takes all our staff to look out for the kids to provide clean facilities and to raise the bar with high expectations, so that when students leave Mayfair, they are college and career ready.”

With her experience in administration, Dr. Morgan holds strong leadership skills in envisioning and understanding. “My leadership skills, well, I feel like I have good vision in how the different systems of a school work together to hopefully create what will feel like the Mayfair way,” she explains. Her greatest challenge, however, lies in evaluating the new environment. “There’s a lot of people to meet, a lot of systems to learn, and a lot of traditions to figure out,” she states. “So evaluating exactly what we have here and what’s needed to take us to the next level is probably my current biggest challenge.” Despite the unfamiliarity, she continues to stay strong in her abilities and ensure a safe and successful environment.

Dr. Morgan has many future goals and bucket list items to pursue in her career life. She shared to The Windjammer those goals as she explains, “I think as far as my career, in the near future, is to really raise the bar for Mayfair students and support kids to be the best they can be — to have high self esteem and to have goals for themselves.” In the future, she plans to finish her career at a time when she is ready for another change. “In the long term, I would like to finish my career probably at the next level,” she answers. “Years from now, I would like to finish my career as a district level administrator.”

Additionally, The Windjammer ask Dr. Morgan about her memorable first moments as Mayfair’s principal. She states: “I think one of them is the very first staff meeting realizing how large the staff is when you include all the employees that work at Mayfair Middle and High School.” She also discusses her first day of school, taking note of the diversity of our Monsoons. “I realized the wide range of students when you’re looking, you know, at the 13-year-olds, 12-year-olds, the 18-year-olds on campus,” she explains. She was able to realize that she and many faculty members have the opportunity to work and serve those students. “Hopefully, that [wide range] contributes to us having the same kids for six years and helps in the area of moving kids academically.”

Dr. Morgan is our new principal of Mayfair moving forward, and we are thankful for her readiness and dedication to lead all Monsoon students and faculty, ensuring that our future generations are college and career ready. Mayfair Middle and High School is excited for what Dr. Morgan has in store for the community.
