Dear Margot,

"I finally got the position I wanted in my job, but I feel like it’s just way too much. How do I let go of this opportunity for the sake of my mental health after yearning for it for so long?"

Hey reader, this is a tough spot to be in. You worked so hard for this, and now that you have it, it doesn’t feel right. That kind of realization can be overwhelming, and I want to remind you—it’s okay to change your mind.

It’s easy to feel like stepping away means failing, but that’s not true. Sometimes, we chase a dream for so long that we don’t stop to ask if it still fits us when we finally reach it. And that’s okay—growing means recognizing when something no longer serves you.

Sometimes, a job seems perfect until you’re actually in it. If it’s making you feel exhausted and unhappy, that is a sign something isn’t working. You can try setting boundaries or making small changes, but if it’s still too much, it’s okay to step away.

Letting go is scary, but forcing yourself to stay in a bad situation is even worse. Choosing your mental health over a job doesn’t mean you failed—it means you’re putting yourself first, and that’s always the right choice.

Hope this helped.

Margot
