Dear Margot: How should I juggle hoco and my grades?

“Dear Margot, with homecoming coming up and all this homework piling up, I am feeling super overwhelmed. What are some tips to manage my time and still have fun?”

Dear reader, I understand how stressful it can be trying to balance homecoming and all of your schoolwork. My best advice is to make a simple schedule so you have an established time to have both fun and finish all of your schoolwork. Start with the assignments that are due first, and try to finish some work each day before homecoming weekend so you aren't stressing about it later. 

You could set aside about an hour after school to do homework, online assignments, and studying. If you have free time during class, you can use that time to focus on your work from your other classes. Make sure to take short breaks so you don't get too overwhelmed. 

It could also help to let your friends know when you need to study. This way, you can make plans on the days you are certain you are free. During that free time, you can start planning out your homecoming outfit and what you are thinking of doing. With the encouragement of your friends, you should be able to balance that struggle of keeping up with your grades while still being able to enjoy your homecoming night with them.

Most importantly, get enough sleep. Staying up super late can make you feel even more tired and stressed. By maintaining the recommended eight hours of sleep, you will feel rested and ready to combat the challenges that come your way. Always remember to stay organized, keep up with your work, and remember that you don't have to go all out for homecoming. The important part is that you have fun. Make sure your priorities are managed, and then enjoy a stress-free night. If you’re still feeling worried, just remember: you always have next year!
