Dear Margot: How should I dress?

Dear Margot,

“Everyone tells me I dress to masculine and I need to dress more girly, but that's not my style. What do I do?”

For a situation like this, I would usually say you should ignore them and go wear whatever you want! But if people are constantly bugging you about this then it isn’t going to be easy to ignore. Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions and they should respect yours. All that matters is that you feel comfortable in your own skin, you don’t need to change your style for other people. Yet ignoring people knowing they are talking about your appearance is hard when that’s all you can hear. However, they will soon get tired of telling you to change for their liking!

Comments on other people’s appearances shouldn’t be said out loud, instead they should respect the person that you are. Remember, you can find people you think would be cool with you! Like someone who compliments your style and supports whatever you wear. Look around during lunch, dismissal, anywhere, and notice that everyone is different; different heights, facial structures, hair textures, hair colors, and personalities. No matter what, we all aren’t the exact same and we all don’t have the same stories. So why change yourself over comments that a group of people make out of the billions of people in the world?

Talk to the people that are making comments on your appearance and ask why they worry about the way you dress, or explain to them that that’s what you feel comfortable in. I understand that not everyone has the same situation but I really do wish for the best.

Sincerely,

Margot
