On Saturday April 25, 2026, two of our students Ryder Hitt and Gregory Mejia competed in the Mesa Coding Regional competition where they both got first place. MESA is the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement competition that happens with both high schoolers and middle schoolers. At a general level, MESA is also a college prep program for students in the STEM field and is designed to bring real life practices to inspire the youth to pursue a higher education in STEM in the future.
Then at MESA regionals, that usually feature up to over 500 students, two of our very own took home first place! These two students had to take a two hour drive up to UC San Barbara where they were able to represent California State Long Beach where they had to face off against some of the top young programs in the area that also represented other colleges like UCLA, UCSB, USC, and California State Los Angeles.
Now with this win, it has made school history. We have two incredible students bring home the first MESA golds. While they were representing Cal State Long Beach , it is still incredible to have these two make this incredible achievement while coming from Mayfair High School.
Congratulations to both Gregory Mejia and Ryder Hitt for their incredible performance at regionals and for representing both CSULB and Mayfair incredibly well at the competition. We hope for the best for both of you in the future for both competitions and the STEAM field in general. Thank you both for this incredible achievement and go Soons!
