Best Films Directed By Women

For those who obviously know, we just entered the month of March, but what many don’t know is that during the month of March, we celebrate Women’s History Month as well. Women’s History Month was officially recognized in 1987, with Congress designating March as the month for it to be celebrated. So, in honor of Women’s History Month, I will be listing some of the best (and most iconic) films directed by women. 


  1. Marie Antoinette (2006)

Marie Antoinette (2006) is a film directed by Sofia Coppola. The movie focuses on Marie Antoinette and her life during her engagement and later her marriage to King Louis XVI.


  1. Clueless (1995)

Clueless (1995) is a film that was directed by Amy Heckerling. The film is one of best and iconic teen flicks to come out of the 90s, the film follows the main character Cher who’s a wealthy, popular matchmaker. 


  1. Turning Red (2022)

Turning Red (2022) is a film that was directed by Domee Shi. The movie follows 13 year old Mei Lee, who transforms into a red panda anytime she experiences a strong emotion. 


  1. The Little Rascals (1994)

The Little Rascals (1994) is a film about a group of young boys who lead an anti-girl organization and choose one of their friends named Alfalfa to represent them in a box racing contest but later find out he has a girlfriend and everyone then begins to turn on him. 


  1. Sleepless In Seattle (1993)

Sleepless in Seattle (1993) is a film about a widowed man named Sam who moves to Seattle with his son. His son calls into a radio station in hopes of finding his father a new wife, eventually a woman listens in and falls for him.


  1. Twilight (2008)

Twilight (2008) is based on the novels series created by Stephenie Meyer, who eventually turned the books into a series of films. Twilight (2008) is a film about a girl named Bella Swan who moves in with her dad into the small town of Forks, Washington and attends a new high school where she eventually meets and falls in love with Edward Cullen. 


  1. A Wrinkle In Time (2018)

A Wrinkle In Time (2018) is a film about a young girl named Meg and her little brother on the search for her father who’s been gone for over 5 years since he discovered a form of time travel to another planet. Meg gets the help from a classmate and 3 astral spirits to help her and her little brother find their father.


  1. Barbie (2023)

Barbie (2023) is a film based on the infamous Mattel Barbie and Ken dolls. The film is about Barbie and Ken having the time of their lives in Barbieland, till eventually Barbie and Ken visit the real world.
