Back To School

The 2024-2025 school year has begun, and many are excited about what’s to come. Despite the major updates from the previous school year, most aspects have remained the same. Notable changes include the high school administration moving from the 200 to the 300 wing; the conversion of the old high school admin office into the special education office, and the introduction of a new assistant principal, Dr. Tehrani. Additionally, new school policies have been implemented, such as eco-friendly trash cans, designated bathroom and school zones, and updated social areas.

The most significant change is the adjustment to the schedule, which underwent a major overhaul last year to adopt what is now referred to as a “block schedule.” This year, the school schedule has been modified to eliminate anchor days (typically days when all classes meet, usually occurring on Mondays with a late start at 10:00 AM). Instead, the schedule now alternates between odd and even days, allowing more time for learning, although Mondays still start at 10:00 AM.

I surveyed students and staff about their thoughts on these changes, and most responses have been positive. Many students are okay with the new office locations and the new assistant principal. However, some students were less enthusiastic about the new policies and schedule changes, feeling these changes add unnecessary confusion and limit their options for socializing. On the other hand, staff members have expressed a more optimistic view, noting that the changes could help reduce stress and inappropriate activities in less supervised areas of the campus.

Most school events will remain similar to last year. Upcoming events as of the end of August include the Back to School Assembly, Back to School Night, Fall Sports Assembly, Club Rush, and Senior Sunrise.
