Margot: Friendship Issues

“Dear Margot, Me and my friends haven’t been getting along, what should I do?”

Hey fellow Monsoon! I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes taking a step back and reflecting on what might be causing the tension can be helpful. Maybe consider if there's been a misunderstanding or if everyone's just been under extra stress lately. It's important to approach the conversation with empathy and an open mind. Listening to their perspective and sharing your feelings can often clear the air. And remember, it's okay to set healthy boundaries if you need to. It can be tough when friendships hit a rough patch.

Have you tried talking openly and honestly with your friends about what's been going on? Communication is key in resolving conflicts. If nothing seems to be changing then maybe you and your friends are outgrowing each other and that is okay! It is a part of life to outgrow people. Take this time to focus on yourself and truly understand how you are feeling.

Once you do understand that and if you realize this friendship is worth saving, communicate with your friends. Try to understand the other person's perspective and emotions. Show empathy by acknowledging their feelings and validating their experiences. Be receptive to different viewpoints and be willing to consider alternative opinions. Avoid being defensive and approach discussions with an open mind.

Just Remember, effective communication is a two-way street. It's important to both express yourself clearly and listen actively to others. Hopefully all turns out well Monsoon!
