A Deeper Look into Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV

On March 17th, 2024, the documentary Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV premiered on HBO MAX and FuboTV. The documentary is centered on the most popular Nickelodeon shows such as iCarly, Victorious, Drake & Josh, All That and The Amanda Show.

The 2nd episode recently aired on March 18th, where former controversial child star Drake Bell opened up about the abuse that he suffered from his former dialect/acting coach Brian Peck. Further in the documentary, they also go into detail about other stars who suffered abuse from others (like Dan Schneider). Stars such as Amanda Bynes, Jennette Mcurdy, the cast of iCarly and many other casts that Schneider had worked on. Only a few stars in recent years have spoken up on the abuse they experienced on the shows they worked on. Jennette Mcurdy wrote a book recently called I’m Glad My Mom Died, where she spoke up on the abuse she faced while working on iCarly and Sam & Cat and the intense abuse she faced from her mother. Other topics that were discussed in the documentary were how Dan Schneider would constantly be verbally abusive, misogynistic and sexually abuse others on set -- writers, staff and actors -- as well.

The documentary did a great job at giving the people who had experienced the abuse they faced a place to tell their story, as of now Dan Schneider and Nickelodeon have released statements. Schneider released his apology on his Youtube channel called “DanWarp” for those who want check it out, and here’s an article I found that discloses Nickelodeons statement to the documentary.
