The Opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially opened to the public on September 22nd, 2026, in Los Angeles. It was founded by George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson. The museum has been in the works for about 17 years. The building itself is pretty hard to miss, with a huge, curved design that almost looks like the Naboo Royal Starship! It has more than 30 galleries, so there is a lot for people to see. 

The museum focuses on how people have used pictures and other forms of art to tell stories. Its current collection includes more than 1,300 works in the opening exhibitions, ranging from old paintings and illustrations to comics, photography, and movie-related art. There are also exhibits featuring artists like Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, and Frank Frazetta. Because it’s the Lucas Museum, there are some Star Wars pieces too. These include costumes, props, vehicles, and artwork from the original movies. 

It is also more than just galleries. The large campus includes gardens, public green space, an amphitheater, a research library, classrooms, theaters, and the Skywalker Grill. The museum even has a free pass for people who live in the surrounding 90037 ZIP code area! After years of delays and changes, the opening is a pretty big moment for Los Angeles, with famous celebrities attending the opening-night gala on September 19th. Whether people are interested in paintings, comics, movies, or just want to see this new building, there’s a little bit of everything for everyone. 

The Lucas Museum is now officially open, giving visitors a new place to see how different kinds of stories can be turned into art.
