Mrs. McKay is a teacher I look at very fondly, the way that she teaches has made me even more interested in history as a subject. She brings light and enjoyment to a classroom like no other teacher. She builds amazing relationships with her students and helps make connections from past ideas in history to what is happening in the world today. I decided today that I will be interviewing her to know more about the brilliant teacher she is and to hopefully get to know her beyond the classroom.

Q: How would you describe your experience teaching?

A: “Teaching is a lot of fun and never boring. I think I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about teaching?

A: “My favorite part of teaching is getting to know my students and helping them see the patterns in human behavior that shape our history.”

Q: How did you get into your profession?

A: “I have always loved learning, so it seemed like a natural direction for me.”

Q: What is the hardest part of your job people may not know?

A: “The hardest part is saying goodbye to my students every year.”

Q: What were you before you were a teacher?

A: “Before I went into a career in education, I had many jobs from serving at different restaurants, managing at a grocery store, to an operations officer at a bank.”

Q: What is the most enjoyable part of your day?

A: “I love mornings, it's my time to center myself both spiritually and physically.”

Q: What do you do outside of school?

A: “Outside of school I spend a lot of time getting together with family, watching my grand-blessings play sports, and spending time at the Colorado River.”

Q: Do you have a favorite movie, TV show, or book?

A: “I love to read above watching TV, I always get the best recommendations from Mrs. Brown. If I had to pick a favorite, I would choose the Bible, but I also like to watch professional football.”

Q: What is your favorite food and why?

A: “I love Mexican food because there's so many variations of it so it never gets old.”

Q: What is a piece of advice you would give to everyone?

A: "Experience is what you get, when you don't get what you want - Randy Pausch.”

I hope this article helped some of you know more about an amazing teacher that has pushed my love for history in many ways. It's always nice to get to know a little bit more about the teacher beyond the classroom. Mrs. McKay is a wonderful teacher and person to learn from. I thank you Mrs. McKay for taking your time to answer my questions and letting me get to know you more.
