Today, I would like to introduce my friend Maximo, who is a very active student here at Mayfair. He has a great role as vice president for SkillsUSA and he still manages to balance all of his rigorous classwork in the meanwhile. I decided to ask him some questions on his involvement in the school so he could be better recognized here at Mayfair.

Q: How do you stay involved in the school?

A: “I like staying involved in school through the program, SkillsUSA, which I have been doing for 4 years now.”

Q: What is it like being the vice president of SkillsUSA?

A: “Being vice president of SkillsUSA for 3 years has been really fun and has helped me to develop leadership skills while also being a bit laid back at times."

Q: What is the best experience you’ve had in SkillsUSA?

A: “The best experience that I've had at SkillsUSA was winning gold at state competition and being able to go to nationals in Atlanta, Georgia.”

Q: Is it hard to balance work with SkillsUSA and classes?

A: “ Honestly, balancing work isn't really that hard until second semester when regional competitions pick up.”

Q: How would you describe your club?

A: “I would describe SkillsUSA as an opening for people to figure out what they're best at, many people believe that you have to be "smart" to join but that's not the case. This club is for everyone because it helps you to demonstrate the skills that you need to improve on for whatever career field you want to do.”

Q: Why would you recommend your club?

A: “I truly recommend SkillsUSA because it gives you the chance to build connections with others and it brings so many new experiences to your life. There's so many new things to learn, including how to develop yourself overall.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about SkillsUSA?

A: “My favorite thing about SkillsUSA is obviously the free food I get at competitions. In all seriousness though, I love making new friends and meeting the people of the SkillsUSA events.”

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: “During my free time I usually like talking with friends, but while alone I recently started playing bass guitar trying to learn new things.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about school, do you have a favorite class?

A: “I think my favorite part of school is interacting with my classmates, mainly in my French class, where we're able to speak and learn together.”

I hope this article helped you all to know more about our amazing classmate Max. He is a great vice president and he continues to push on with his work and be a star student. His involvement with school activities make him an active and participating pupil. Thank you Max for taking the time to answer these questions
