Ayanna Greenidge is a Mayfair High School senior balancing academics, varsity volleyball, and personal goals, staying motivated through every challenge. Her favorite subject is chemistry, which she plans to major in at Howard University, one of the U.S.’s top-ranked historically Black colleges and universities.

One of Ayanna’s main goals this academic year is to earn a 4.0 GPA. She is determined to stay focused on her academics while continuing to grow as a student-athlete. She has played volleyball for four years, including three on varsity. Her passion for the sport began after watching her older sister practicing. Eventually, she became involved herself and discovered her own passion for volleyball.

As a senior, Ayanna said this season is particularly meaningful because it is her final year competing in high school. After years of dedication, she has reflected on how far she has come and the memories she has made with her teammates. With graduation approaching, she is preparing to close this chapter of her life while looking forward to her future beyond high school. During games, Ayanna stays motivated through self-talk, proper hydration, and support from her teammates. She highlighted how her teammates help her keep her grounded and motivated, especially during challenging moments.

Outside of academics and sports, Ayanna is an accomplished spoken-word poet. She recently competed in a poetry event and advanced to an international district meeting and showcase. If she could check one thing off her bucket list, Ayanna would choose to go skydiving. When asked what she would change about her school, she said she would to see more opportunities for students to learn effective study skills.

Ayanna’s message to her peers is simple: “Never give up and don’t let fear discourage you.”  With her sights set on Howard University, a future in chemistry, and various goals ahead, Ayanna continues to demonstrate that determination and courage can take you far.
