On August 26, 2026, Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley in the original Harry Potter movies, announced that he’ll be returning to his role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway at the New York Lyric Theater via an Instagram reel with the Playbill of the ongoing play, stating “Dusting off the old robes. New York-see you all in February.” He’ll be returning to Ron Weasley's role for a 17 week run from February 2nd, 2027 to May 30th, 2027.

The play is based on the events after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows II and features the characters now older with kids of their own. It focuses on Harry’s 2nd son, Albus, and how he navigates life in Hogwarts, gets sorted into Slytherin House, and befriends Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius Malfoy. They go through many dangerous time travels that draw their parents to reunite as the past threatens to alter the futures of their families.

This announcement marks the first show that he’s returning to his role he had played throughout his life in the original movies on the stage. He is the only main star out of the three to be returning to their role. His costar, Tom Felton, is also reprising his role as Draco in the exact same play, but they won’t be appearing together on stage, as Felton’s last day as Draco is on January 3rd of 2027, and Grint’s first day is in February.

In a statement, he said, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life. There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new. And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much in my life is truly exciting.”
