Mayfair's Political Street Poll

The 2024 presidential election is coming up with tension on both sides. The topic has been in discussion for a while and everyone seems to have an opinion on the matter. While most of the students at Mayfair Middle and High school are too young to vote, it doesn’t mean they can’t or don’t have opinions on the candidates in the upcoming election.

I went around and asked 10 people who they would vote for if they had a chance:

  • Three people would vote for Kamala Harris.

  • One person would vote for Donald Trump,

  •  Five people said they would want to abstain.

  • One person said they would vote for the third party.

I asked for their reasons why they support a certain candidate. One person said they would vote for Kamala Harris because she is full of ideals and future views for the United States of America. Another person said it’s because Kamala wants to give power and freedom to the citizens rather than the elites, unlike what Trump did. One person said they would vote for Kamala, even though they don’t agree with all her policies. For the person who said they would vote for Trump stated, that things were cheaper when he was the president in 2016-2020. As for the many people who said they would abstain, some of their answers were very similar. The most common ones being that they didn’t want to get into politics or that they didn’t like what either side was doing and supporting.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Though we may disagree with each other, we must remain civil when talking about politics. If done right, it can help strengthen the bond we have with each other by learning to peacefully disagree with each other’s opinions. I implore the students of Mayfair to stay respectful when discussing this sort of topic.
