In Memoriam: Tim Curry

Tim Curry is a well-known English actor, singer, and voice actor who became famous for his roles in movies, television, and theater. He began his career on the London stage in the late 1960s after studying English and drama at the University of Birmingham. On August 25, 2026, Tim Curry passed away in his home in Los Angeles, California at the age of 80.

He became a major part of pop culture with his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show and its 1975 film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Curry was widely recognized for playing the role of Pennywise the clown in the 1990 television series It. Besides these famous roles, he appeared in movies such as Clue, Annie, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and The Three Musketeers. Curry also had success on Broadway, where he was nominated for three Tony Awards for his roles in My Favorite Year, Amadeus, and Spamalot.

Outside of his most recognizable roles, Curry had a career that reached beyond what made him famous. His voice became especially popular with younger audiences when he played Nigel Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys, while he also took on the role of Captain Hook in Peter Pan and the Pirates. Music was another important part of his career; he released several albums and performed with his own band. Curry continued to find ways to stay involved in the entertainment industry even after suffering a stroke in 2012 that affected his mobility. Later in life, he looked back on his experiences in his 2025 memoir, Vagabond, allowing fans to learn more about his life and career.
