CIF Cross Country Recap

As the fall season starts to dwindle down, sports of that season are too. Sadly, Mayfair’s Cross Country team will not be continuing onto CIF Finals, but they did put on a stellar performance in CIF Prelims on Friday the 10th.

The team has consistently gone to CIF for the past couple years and this year was no different. As both the girls and guys varsity teams advanced to the preliminaries after both placing second at league the week prior. CIF was held at Mount San Antonio College, known as MT. SAC for short and this course is arguably the hardest of their entire season. The course is for the most part all hills and dirt, which makes most runners a bit slower than their regular times. This with the added heat makes up for a tough 3 mile race. For some more context and an idea of the course, here a video that shows the course and breaks it down a bit: Mt. Sac XC Course Preview.

Both teams ran in the Division 3 Heat 1’s. While just running Division 3 is an accomplishment, many of the other sports on Mayfair’s campus are in lower divisions. The guys team was made up of: Javonn Chhu, Lamech Samuel, Reeve Davis, Jake Godinez, Ivan Tadeo, Alfredo Martinez and Carlos Moreria. While the girls team was made up of: Cristal Martinez, Dulce Tadeo, Stella Lynch, Maritza Sanchez, Lizette Najera, Jamisen Grimes and Vanessa Hernandez. Along with them, other teammates went to the meet to cheer on their teammates. Which was especially helpful to the team. Even ASB leader, Mrs. McAndrews, was there and she also cheered on the team. Hopefully this motivates others to try to go to meets to support the team next year. Overall, the school congratulates all the members of the team who are glad they continue the tradition of Mayfair being in CIF and also represent them well in CIF.

You can still see the team run the video link below are of Mayfair team’s races!
