Welcome Back Assembly

There’s no better way to kick off a brand new school year than with an assembly. The Monsoon House was finally able to fix a minor issue that held the school back from celebrating this 22-23 school year and on September 9, 2022, we were able to have our first assembly back in 3 ½ years! It was a very emotional and surreal experience of having an in-person assembly after Covid shut down our gymnasium from any form of pep rallies and get-togethers, and the first time having only 1 high school assembly since 2002. The stakes for this welcome back assembly, both for the new school year and for the new chapter after Covid, and they did not disappoint! The USA spirit theme for this Friday helped honor 9/11, one of America's biggest tragedies that struck our country 21 years ago. The beautiful array of red, white and blue that filled the student section along with the band's magical performance of the National Anthem brought honor to the tragic event. Following the respected moment of silence, the Monsoons spent no time in kicking up the adrenaline and energy to welcome everyone back to school.

The assembly recognized the Varsity Fall Sports Teams for their hard work and dedication this season through a dance battle. We had Volleyball perform “Stir Fry” by Migos, Golf with “Umbrella” by Rhianna, Cross Country (with very short notice but lots of dedication) performing “Single Ladies” by Beyoncé, Tennis with “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars and finally our wonderful football team with “California Gurls” by Katy Perry. Lots of teamwork through both individual teams and all teams working together to hype one another up showcased the large community we have here at Mayfair. Following the recognition of all Varsity Fall Teams, we also got a glimpse of 10 people from each class working together in an activity to pass a hula hoop back and forth while they all held hands and couldn’t let go of each other's hands to add more suspense.

Additionally, we got to see teacher representation with a balloon activity where a handful of teachers had a balloon tied to their ankle and had to keep their balloon alive the longest. Both activities had lots of cheers coming from every direction in the gym and had lots of Monsoon pride echoing throughout. The assembly brought lots of justice to the phrase “Welcome Back” and paved the way for an amazing 22-23 school year that’s sure to be full of nothing but success for everyone!
