TikTokers Not Getting Punished for Their Disgusting Actions

I’m sure we all know about cancel culture by now due to the countless amount of stories written about it, and the amount of influencers condemning the act of “cancelling.” As I’ve said before, I’m not a huge fan of cancelling but I am a fan of holding people accountable for their actions. There are too many people getting bullied and sent death threats for things they did years ago rather than getting educated. Obviously saying a slur is bad, but if a person stopped saying it do we really have to bully them off of an app that’s made for fun? This whole article will be quite triggering as it will discuss sensitive topics.

TikTok, the biggest social media app is being talked about again because of how toxic it is. There are many popular TikTokers such as Charli and Dixie D’amelio, Chase Hudson, etc; however, I want to address the disgusting Lopez brothers, Zoe Laverne, and any other TikToker who is somewhat like them.

A writer for Filmdaily.com named Mary-Anne Desai wrote an article called “What exactly did the Lopez Brothers do? Explaining the allegations.” In the article, it states that two minors reported the following claim to People magazine: “This case arises out of injuries suffered by minor Plantiffs after they were lured, persuaded, coerced and groomed to either engage in physical sexual acts and/or send illicit and obscene child pornographic images of themselves, to Defendants, as a result of Defendants’ illegal acts.”

At first, Tony Lopez denied all claims and said “This whole thing seems like a money grab to me. I’m going to fight it to the very end. I will not allow them to continue to slander my name and attack my character.” However, he then changed that statement later on claiming he was still new to the LA scene and that he’d make better choices. As of right now, there’s no apology and from what I know the girls haven’t spoken out any further.

Ondreaz Lopez is 23 years old, making him the middle child of the Lopez brothers. On filmdaily.com, it explains that in June of 2020, Ondreaz faced an allegation from a 16-year-old girl who claimed that he made girls “touch his genitals.” The girl further went on to say: “My crew turned their back on me when Ondreaz (Lopez) told everyone that I went on top of him and that I initiated everything, when he was the one to invite me in his bed when I was already sleeping on his couch.” With this claim, Ondreaz fully confessed and said “I want to finalize all of this with an apology to Alessandra (AI). Regardless of whatever happened between us that evening, she (them) obviously felt very uncomfortable with it and it was never my intention to hurt her (them) or make her (them) feel the way. CONSENT is so important and no one deserves to have that away from them.” It’s still a very wrong and disgusting situation, but it’s a much better statement than the one Tony made.

Zoe Laverne could be labeled the most controversial girl on TikTok. She’s been around on social media for awhile, constantly making headlines on drama channels for things like cheating on fellow TikToker Cody Orlove and Orlove claiming Laverne sexually assaulted him. However, she’s known for her biggest controversy: pursuing a relationship with a 13-year-old boy. Kat Tenbarge wrote an article on Insider.com called “The controversies of 19-year-old TikTok star Zoe Laverne, who recently announced her pregnancy.” Orlove claims that in late October 2020, his social media accounts were hacked. That hack resulted in messages with a smaller TikToker named Amber Van Pelt being sent to the Instagram gossip page called “TikTok Room.” In those messages, Van Pelt stated “I left because of her interactions with [name]. They got very intense and it's something I do not stand by what so ever. It's pedophilia.” After those messages leaked, a video then leaked of Laverne, who is 19, kissing a 13-year-old boy. Laverne denies ever being in a relationship with him, and claims no grooming nor raping happened; however, she claims that the two caught feelings for each other but eventually decided not to date because of the age difference.

That is the disgusting world of TikTok, an app that was originally created for kids. It has now turned into an app where groomers and sexual assaulters could stay relevant. There is so much more to each of those stories that isn’t out on the internet for obvious reasons, but with what has been confirmed, why doesn’t TikTok ban these people’s accounts? Anyone who is considered “famous” on TikTok will never face any punishment because of how large their fan bases are, and that’s something that needs drastic change.
