TikTok Food Trends: Cloud Bread

This trendy food found on the popular social media site TikTok is easily made with only three ingredients: egg whites, cornstarch, and sugar. Here is the recipe if you are interested in making your own cloud bread at home:

  1. First you need these ingredients:

  • 3 egg whites

  • 2 ½ tablespoons of sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch

  • 1 teaspoon of flavoring such as vanilla, almond, etc. (optional)

  • Food Coloring (optional)

  1. Put three egg whites into a medium sized bowl and begin to whisk at a medium to high speed, or use a hand mixer, until the egg whites become foamy.

  2. Next gradually pour the sugar into the egg whites, white still whisking.

  3. Add the optional flavoring and food coloring, and begin to whisk again.

  4. While whisking, gradually add the cornstarch into the mixture.

  5. Now add more speed to the whisking and keep doing it until peaks form.

  6. Once peaks appear, put it onto a cookie sheet, and preheat the oven to 300 degrees .

  7. Shape the fluffy mixture into the desired shape on the cookie sheet, then put it into the oven for 25 minutes.

  8. To check if it is fully cooked, use a toothpick: if the toothpick comes out clean, your bread is ready!

The bread was really easy and fun to make! When I saw the bread come out of the oven and it looked like it did in the video I originally saw it in I got really excited because I knew it wasn’t a fake recipe. The texture of the bread was really crazy too! I would describe it as a really moist, airy cake. The concept of the bread was a really good idea, but the taste was so strange. I used vanilla extract in my bread and I couldn’t even taste it. To me personally the bread wasn't horrible, but it’s not something I would make or eat again. It tasted like sweet eggs; I don’t know how else to describe. I would give it a 5/10 because it came out just like the video and it was fun to make, but the taste was not pleasant, and I would not bake it again.
